Education:
M.S., The Pennsylvania State University, 2007 (Human Development and Family Studies)
B.S., San Diego State University, 2004 (Psychology)

Research Interests:
Adolescent development, happiness and well-being; parent-adolescent relationships and interaction; emotional dynamics in parent adolescent interaction; culture and social context in positive youth outcomes (goals, purpose, thriving, etc.); links among well-being and risk behaviors; methods for analyzing intra- and inter-individual change in adolescent well-being indicators; methods for analyzing dyadic data; person-specific analysis, dynamic systems modeling, and person oriented approaches to  the study of adolescent development; and person-family-based promotive interventions for positive youth development

Methodology Center Research Areas: latent class analysis, latent transition analysis

Current Projects and Collaborators:
Currently, I work with J. Douglas Coatsworth on investigating relations among parents, adolescents, socio-cultural contexts and adolescents’ well-being. I am also working with Doug Coatsworth, Mark Greenberg, and Larissa Duncan on developing and testing a coding system for observing mindful parenting during parent-adolescent interactions.

Additionally, I work with Peter Molenaar on using dynamic systems and person-specific models for studying intraindividual variation in developmental processes. We are also interested in computing models for properly accounting for nested variance in dyadic data analytic techniques.

Honors and Awards:
  • NIH/NIDA Pre-doctoral Research Fellowship: Prevention and Methodology Training Program (The Methodology Center and Prevention Research Center, The Pennsylvania State University; T32-DA-017629)
  • Karl Freeman Petersen Graduate Award in Prevention Fellowship: Prevention Research Center at the Pennsylvania State University, September 2007-May 2008
