| Research Interests and Current Projects: |

My primary research interests are in the area of intensive longitudinal data (ILD) design and analysis and their application to health-related behaviors. With advances in data collection technology (e.g. hand-held computers, automated portable devices), more social scientists collect data intensively (e.g. through ecological momentary assessments and experience-sampling). However, little is known about properly designing such studies, determining sampling intensity, and developing sensitive measures. Additionally, new methodological approaches are needed to answer complex research questions, arising from ILD. Currently, I work with Runzi Li and Xianming Tan on applications of Functional Data Methodology to analyses of time-varying covariates in ILD studies. I also collaborate with Yuelin Li and Jamie Ostroff from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center on applying Mixture Models to ILD. Based on ecological momentary data from a smoking cessation intervention among newly diagnosed cancer patients, we are interested in determining distinct smoking profiles as well as describing time-varying behavioral and psychological patterns. I am investigating technical issues related to Mixture Modeling, such as power and model identification, and working with John Dziak on simulating studies to answer these questions. Finally, I have a general interest in statistical graphing as a medium of explaining complex methods and statistical finding to non-technical audiences.
