We conduct methodological research focusing on identifying issues in statistics, research design, and measurement emerging in prevention and treatment of problem behaviors, particularly drug abuse. We conduct original research on these issues, apply the new methods we develop in empirical research, and disseminate new methods to prevention and treatment scientists. Themes that cut across research areas include:

  • Advancing methods for design and analysis in longitudinal research
  • Optimizing use of resources in research design and behavioral interventions
  • Using pragmatic Bayesian approaches to statistical computation, inference, and decision making
  • Improving causal inference
