Methodology Center researchers Dr. Stephanie Lanza and Dr. Brittany Rhoades have created a new Microsoft Excel calculator for use in latent class analysis (LCA) with a binary distal outcome. Software users can reparameterize a LCA with covariates model and use the calculator to determine the probability of an outcome based on latent class membership. In the article "Latent Class Analysis: An Alternative Perspective on Subgroup Analysis in Prevention and Treatment" (see Lanza & Rhoades, 2011), the researchers use this calculator to predict behavioral outcomes for adolescents based on membership in latent classes of risk. The calculator and step-by-step instructions are available here.
